Coleen Nolan was meanly trolled for a hard family decision.

Coleen Nolan, 61, talked on Loose Women about care home guilt.

Coleen and her family put her mom in a care home because it was too dangerous for her to be alone. Her mom had Alzheimer's and died in 2007 at 81.

Coleen said it was the hardest decision. They looked after her mom as long as they could, but it became too dangerous.

Her mom would leave electric kettles on the gas hob and not notice, and there would be smoke.

It was getting really difficult. Her mom would get up at 3 am, and they had to lock doors because she'd wander. Her daughter Ciara was tiny and found her mom's tablets, which looked like candy.

The tablets looked like Smarties, but luckily Ciara didn't put them in her mouth. If it were her boys, they would have eaten them.

Her mom needed more care, and they were working and had young kids. It was the hardest decision to suggest a care home.

They let her mom choose the care home. She picked one they wouldn't have chosen, but it was her choice.

The star appeared on Loose Women to talk about care home guilt.

Many people trolled them, saying 'how dare you?' and 'your mom brought you up, and you can't look after her?'

They could have looked after her, but it wouldn't be safe. She had aggressive Alzheimer's and needed 24-hour supervision. They felt guilty, and people asked how they could sleep at night.

Coleen said people who say 'I looked after my mom' are usually retired, but she wasn't. Her mom would say 'don't do that' if she knew they were feeling guilty.

Coleen told her kids that if she gets Alzheimer's, they should put her in a care home and not feel guilty.

She wants her kids to know she gives them permission to make that decision so they don't feel guilty like she did.
