Sir Rod Stewart stopped his concert to use an oxygen tank after saying he almost fainted on stage.

The 81-year-old singer looked uncomfortable and held onto stage props during the concert at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre on Friday night.

But Rod kept singing before assistants took him to the side of the stage where he used an oxygen tank.

He came back a few minutes later and told the crowd he almost fainted, but the show would go on. He made some jokes and asked if he could sit on steps to perform his next song, then finished the show in a chair.

Rod, 81, has cancelled several concerts recently due to health issues.

The rocker, who still tours, has cancelled concerts due to health reasons. He cancelled his May 29 and 30 shows in Las Vegas after doctors told him to rest his voice.

Rod said: 'I'm sorry to my fans. I'm resting my voice because I have a sinus infection. I look forward to seeing you at a future show.'

He cancelled his June 12 show in California just before it started because he got laryngitis.

A statement on his Instagram said: 'Rod Stewart regretfully has to cancel his show tonight in Chula Vista, California.'

The statement said he tried to perform but couldn't because of a bad upper respiratory infection that gave him laryngitis.

Video footage showed Rod getting oxygen backstage, which was shared with TMZ.

Rod faced criticism when he posted a video of himself and sons flying to Boston to watch a football game.

In the video, Rod said: 'We're flying to Boston to see Scotland in the World Cup. It's been 28 years, and my kids have never been.'

But people in the comments were upset that Rod made the trip despite being sick and cancelling a show.

One person wrote: 'This feels wrong, especially after you cancelled your show last night. Too sick to perform but okay to fly for soccer?'

Another person said: 'You cancelled your concert but can go to the World Cup? I'm a fan, but that's not cool.'

Someone else commented: 'I understand shows get cancelled, but seeing you on a plane with friends after thousands of people were sent home disappointed is hard to accept.'

The person said: 'Many people travelled far, paid for hotels and tickets, and took time off work to see you. Then you fly across the country for a game, which makes it feel worse.'

The person ended by saying: 'The cancellation was frustrating, but this makes it seem like you don't care about your fans. A little empathy would help.'
