Scientists Happy to Get First Signal from Artemis Mission

Scientists in Cornwall got their first signal from NASA's Artemis II mission to the Moon.

Matthew Cosby said getting the signal was an exciting moment for his team at Goonhilly Earth Station.

Goonhilly is helping track the Orion spacecraft on its first crewed mission to the Moon in 50 years.

Cosby said they are testing for NASA to show they can collect good data.

Goonhilly has helped with 20 lunar missions, but this is the first with humans on the spacecraft.

NASA will compare the data from Goonhilly with its own data.

Cosby said it's like a test to show how good their team and technology are.

If they succeed, they can help with future Artemis missions.

Future missions will have people walking on the Moon, which will be great.

Not just scientists are excited, kids at Nansloe Academy are too.

The kids have been learning about space and making their own rockets.

They watched the spacecraft launch and cheered when it took off.

Marla, 10, is excited to see what's on the far side of the Moon.

Marla thinks there could be aliens and we might not be alone. She wants to learn if there are other species.

Lily, 10, thinks the Moon is interesting with many craters. She likes that it looks like cheese.

Lily wants to go to the Moon because there's less gravity and she could fly.

Hattie, 6, hopes to find other species and be friends with them.
