While a recent increase in violence related to ICE detentions in Minneapolis has heightened anxieties for some, statistics from World Cup observers and Amadeus indicate that reservations are on the rise, especially among fans from England and Scotland.

Out of the reservations made for the duration of the tournament, scheduled to occur in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 37% were established in the month following the draw.

Nonetheless, the data does not clarify if the latest immigration enforcement actions in the U.S. have influenced bookings for 2026. Furthermore, a significant sporting event does not automatically assure an increase in travel to the hosting nation, as evidenced by the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"The tournament represents an opportunity to witness the most skilled football players globally, and supporters will travel nearly anywhere to see the best, regardless of the policies and politics of the host nation," stated travel expert Paul Charles.

"Nevertheless, safety remains a crucial concern, so tourists will be wishing for stability in host cities and that their travel insurance will still be valid for their trips planned in June and July," added Charles, who heads The PC Agency consultancy.

The highest surge in daily bookings was recorded for the opening match in New York City between Brazil and Morocco, with over 2,500 flight reservations, according to the Amadeus data.

Lodging reservations in Canada and Mexico have also increased, with the average hotel occupancy in Mexico City on the nights preceding three scheduled matches rising from 4% to 21% compared to the same period last year.
