UK Passport Holders Must Do One Minute Task

HM Passport Office is urging people to check their passports.

The office issues UK passports and oversees registration services. It warned people with holidays booked to check their passport expiry dates. If you need to renew, you can apply online. HMPO said this to help people.

A graphic said: "Check your passport is valid before travel." If your passport is invalid, you will be turned away at the airport. Different countries have different rules.

Passports from 2018 are valid for 10 years. But if your passport was issued before 2018, it might be valid for 10 years and 9 months. This is because the passport office used to add extra months to your new passport.

Some people have passports that are still valid for travel. But for European travel, your passport must be less than 10 years old.

For the Schengen Zone, your passport must be less than 10 years old and valid for 3 months after you return.

You can only stay in Schengen countries for 90 days in 6 months now. Before Brexit, there were no time limits.
