Travel Problems for Bank Holiday Weekend

The Port of Dover is giving new advice to travelers on Friday and the bank holiday weekend.

Drivers going to Dover have been warned about two-hour waits, and many others are facing travel problems.

Dover authorities told customers to expect a 120-minute wait in the buffer zone before reaching French border control.

The Port of Dover said, "Thank you for your patience. We are working hard to get everyone through border control and check-in quickly." Many Brits flying to Europe also fear long waits at border control.

Travelers at Dover are in long queues.

Doug Bannister, Port of Dover chief, said, "We expect 8,000 cars on Saturday. Our busy time is 5am-1pm. Please don't arrive more than two hours before your sailing."

It's not better for people staying home, with temperatures over 30C predicted.

National Rail warned that hot weather can cause problems with train lines and tracks.

Many rail passengers had cancellations before the weekend due to engineering work and strikes.

LNER said northbound services between London and Peterborough were disrupted due to a power line fault.

The East Coast Main Line will be one of the worst routes affected due to a closure for works.

The closure affects Middlesborough fans traveling to London for a football game.

There will be industrial action on some railways, with passengers advised to only travel if necessary.

The Transpennine route will also be impacted, with a rail replacement service between Manchester and Huddersfield.

Buses will replace trains on the Great Western main line between Newport and Bristol Parkway.

Passengers using part of the Thameslink line in London will also be disrupted.

Anit Chandarana from Network Rail said, "Bank holidays are a good time for us to do major improvements."

He said, "I know it's frustrating, but this investment will make everyday journeys better."

Passengers going to Dover face long waits ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

More people will take to the roads due to rail disruption, making them busier.

The final weekend of the Premier League season will also add to the risk of traffic jams.

The AA forecasts Friday will be the busiest day, with around 23.4 million journeys.
