My tulips grow back better each year thanks to Monty Don’s 1 simple task — takes 5 seconds

Tulips are popular spring bulbs. They are one of my favourites too. They are bright and vibrant.
My tulips have started to fade. This is the perfect time to deadhead them, as Monty Don advised.
Tulips put on a spectacular show, but once they finish flowering, it is time to deadhead them.
I deadheaded my tulips last year and they came back looking great this year.
Monty Don said to deadhead tulips once they are past their best.
I noticed my tulips have started to fade.
Deadheading stops seed development, so energy goes into forming new bulbs.
I prefer to pinch off the flower head with my fingers.
You don't need to prune the whole stem, just leave it in place.
The green stem can do photosynthesis, generating energy for the bulb. Removing most of the stem decreases energy production.
You can gently bend the foliage down to tidy up without damaging it.

I deadheaded my tulips to make them grow back in the same spot.
If you want to replant them, dig them out after flowering and store them until autumn.
In autumn, plant tulip bulbs pointy end up, 8cm apart, and three times their height deep.
If you don't plan to replant, you can compost the tulip bulbs.
