Teen to Face Trial for Attempted Murder of 8-Year-Old in Ontario

A teenager is set to stand trial in 2027 for the attempted murder of an 8-year-old girl in Quadeville, Ontario. The trial will be heard by a judge alone.
Police arrested a 17-year-old last July and charged him with attempted murder and assault after a girl was found badly hurt in a wooded area.
The trial is scheduled to take place over 16 days in January, February, and March 2027.
The small village of Quadeville was very scared after the girl was attacked. She had been missing since June 23. A search party found her badly hurt in the woods. She was taken to a hospital in Ottawa. The village was worried and unsure what to do.
Police dogs found the girl in the woods near the village. She was taken to the hospital by air. The police warned parents to keep their children safe.
The police warned people in Quadeville to keep their children inside or watch them closely until they knew what hurt the girl.
At first, the police thought an animal might have hurt the girl, but they needed to do more tests.
The police set traps and cameras in the woods but did not find any animals that could have hurt the girl.
Two weeks after the girl was found, the police arrested a 17-year-old and charged him. They also said that tests on the girl's wounds did not show any animal DNA. The police had been looking for the person who hurt the girl.
The police were asked about what they learned from the investigation, but they said they could not comment because of the upcoming trial.
The girl who was hurt has been released from the hospital, but the police cannot name her or the person accused because of the law.
