Abandoned iconic theme park set to reopen in 2028 after £86m transformation
The legendary amusement park Tivoli World in Benalmádena, Spain, has lain deserted for the past five years following its closure in 2020. The much-loved Costa del Sol theme park is currently undergoing a remarkable transformation and is slated to reopen in 2028.
The park closed its doors in 2020 due to financial woes and the COVID-19 pandemic, but is finally poised to reopen after a €100million (£86million) redevelopment scheme. Last year, Benalmádena's local government and the park's owner, Grupo Tremón, struck a deal to revamp Tivoli World into a premier tourist and commercial hotspot.
The revamped park will boast a massive wheel and a free-fall tower, alongside a new commercial zone featuring restaurants, shops and hotels.

The relaunch of Tivoli Park is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the local economy, generating around 1,000 jobs, reports the Express.
Benalmádena's mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, declared this a historic step, stating there's "no time to waste". He added: "We're pulling out all the stops to fast-track the process."
Tivoli World, originally established in 1972 by Danish entrepreneur Bernt Olsen, rapidly became a key entertainment centre in southern Spain.

Folks took to Tripadvisor to share their thoughts on the news, with one saying: "Tivoli World to reopen, sadly not until 2028!"
Another commented: "Went twice in my younger days. The kids loved it."
A British amusement park in Southend-on-Sea is also gearing up to reopen following the unveiling of major renovation plans.
