Liverpool player evaluations against Qarabag: 9/10 and three 8s outstanding in thrashing
Express
This result means Slot's side has progressed directly to the last 16 of the knockout stages without having to face the play-off round next month. We were present at Anfield, and here’s our evaluation of the Liverpool players’ performances.
Alisson Becker 7.
Made one stop against Duran in the first half and managed some aerial challenges, but had little to do in the second half.
Jeremie Frimpong N/A.
Barely had a chance to contribute before being forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring issue. Substituted.
Ryan Gravenberch 7.
Displayed a solid outing as an emergency centre-back, only momentarily losing his position during a vigorous run forward. Ended the match back in midfield.
Virgil van Dijk 8.
Handled a lot of the defensive work with several outstanding clearances and could claim three assists. A real threat during set-pieces.
Andy Robertson 7.
Provided a dependable attacking option down the left side and his forward pass initiated the second goal. Enjoyed the match against limited opposition.
Dominik Szoboszlai 8.
Had no real need to limit his attacking goals despite playing in a defensive midfield role and engaged well in challenges while showing willingness to shoot. His set-piece led to the opening goal, assisted the third, and was vital in the fifth.
Alexis Mac Allister 7.
Didn’t seem the quickest in the midfield contest early on but played his part well and was ideally placed to head in the opener and scored the fifth.
Mohamed Salah 7.
For much of the first half-hour, his precision was somewhat lacking but began to find his form before the break and had a notably better second half highlighted by a magnificent free-kick.
Florian Wirtz 8.
His exceptional pressing created an opportunity and he consistently posed a threat, rounding off the second goal impressively. Such a gifted player.
Substituted.
Cody Gakpo 7.
Showed much effort and hints of synergy with Robertson and Ekitike but was a bit predictable when cutting inside, though he improved after halftime and was denied a goal by a brilliant save. Substituted.
Hugo Ekitike 9.
Gave a remarkable first-half performance filled with speed, purpose, and pressing, and played a key role in setting up the second before a stunning solo goal for Liverpool's fourth. Substituted.
SUBS.
Wataru Endo (for Frimpong 4) 7.
Kept things simple coming on as an emergency right-back for the injured Frimpong and delivered an impressive showing.
Rio Ngumoha (for Wirtz 67) 7.
Excited the crowd with a couple of promising runs but understandably still a bit raw as a 17-year-old.
Trey Nyoni (for Ekitike 67) 7.
Adapted into an attacking midfield role effectively. Federico Chiesa (for Gakpo 74) 7.
He scored a tidy goal to cap a performance that thrilled the crowd.
Amara Nallo (for Szoboszlai 74) 6.
Made significant progress in his career by avoiding three red cards in his first three senior games.
