I found a quiet European city that is better than Rome

It's a hidden travel spot in Europe.

Pula in Croatia is similar to Rome. It was built on seven hills, which shows its Roman past. The hills are still important to Pula today, offering great views. I saw Pula on TikTok and decided to visit. I wanted to see what the city had to offer. Pula has a special Roman legacy and a good geographic layout.

Many people visit Dubrovnik and Split, but not Pula. Pula is the largest city in Istria, in the north of Croatia. It is famous for its Roman remains, especially the Pula Arena.

The Pula Arena has been a major part of the city for over 2,000 years.

The Arena was built between 27 BC and 68 AD. Most of it still exists today. It is the only one of its kind with all four side towers still intact.

The Pula Arena is older than the Colosseum in Rome. It was made from white limestone from Istria, which shows the skill of Roman engineers.

There are many things to see in the city.

Where some parts are missing, the Romans used them to build other buildings.

I was surprised by how big the Arena is. It can hold up to 20,000 people. In the past, it was used for gladiatorial combat and knights' tournaments.

Today, the Arena is still used for performances. It can seat over 7,000 people and hosts concerts, film screenings, and other events.

In the old town, there is the Temple of Augustus.

Under the city's streets, there is a network of limestone tunnels. Visiting them was very interesting.

The tunnels are called Zerostrasse. They were built in the early 20th century as a shelter system during wartime.

The tunnels are spacious and provide a cool place to escape the heat.

I visited a European city with an amphitheatre better than Rome that few tourists visit.

The Temple of Augustus is in the old town, overlooking Forum Square. It was originally dedicated to Emperor Augustus.

The temple was partly destroyed in World War 2, but it was restored. I enjoyed looking at it while having a drink at a café in Forum Square.

There are beaches near the city for those who want to relax.

Pula has beautiful streets.

Near Pula, there is Hawaii Beach, known for its clear waters.

I stayed at the Park Plaza Histria Pula, which is on the Verudela Peninsula.

The hotel is near the beach and only four kilometers from the center of Pula.
