Thailand Speeds Up Train Connections with Malaysia

Three big train projects in the south, worth over 100 billion baht, may start bidding in 2026.
The Hat Yai - Padang Besar train line is very important because it connects Thailand to Malaysia. Thailand and Malaysia are also working to restart an old train line that has not been used for over 20 years.

Thailand and Malaysia talked about trains on April 29. They discussed how to work together on trains, including fixing an old line to help trade and transportation.
Malaysia suggested reconnecting a train line between Sungai Kolok in Thailand and Rantau Panjang in Malaysia. They talked about restarting passenger and cargo train services to help the economy in southern Thailand.
They also looked at progress on big projects that will shape the future of trains, including a new train line in Malaysia that will be finished in January 2027.
