Everyone with Virgin Media gets a free broadband upgrade this month

Anyone who connects to the web via Virgin Media is getting a useful upgrade, and the best part is, it's totally free. The UK internet service provider (ISP) has announced the launch of a new service called Smart Support, which is rolling out right now across the country.

As the name suggests, this update offers support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is aimed at keeping things running smoothly throughout the year.

Once activated, Smart Support is clever enough to automatically check broadband coverage and instantly prioritise assistance for customers experiencing significant speed or connectivity issues. Once a problem is spotted, homes will get instant suggestions to help get things back on track. It's hoped this will keep users online and stop annoying outages that can bring streaming or working from home grinding to a halt.

Another bonus is the ability for Virgin to carry out remote fixes overnight, applying updates or repairs while households are asleep to avoid daytime disruption.

If things are really bad, the service can determine whether a customer would benefit from a WiFi Pod or Hub upgrade, and Virgin Media will proactively reach out if stronger whole-home coverage is needed. If issues become more serious, customers can also book an engineer at no extra cost.

Virgin Media has confirmed that it is rolling out smart support to all of its customers as standard and at no extra cost.
