0:02Narrator: Hello. So far, Alice had been very
0:07small, then very tall, then very small again
0:13in this strange Wonderland she found
0:15when she chased a talking rabbit and fell
0:17down the rabbit hole.
0:20Now she was swimming in a pool of her
0:22own tears, wondering what was
0:24going to happen next.
0:30Alice: Ooh, whatever's this? It's a mouse!
0:35Hello mouse! You're a very big mouse...
0:40but then, I'm a very, very little girl today.
0:45Whatever next? If this mouse talks, I won't
0:49be at all surprised...
0:51Oh Mouse, do you know the way out
0:53of this pool? I'm very tired of
0:56swimming about here, Mouse!
1:03Mouse? Hmmm. Perhaps it doesn't
1:08understand English. Maybe it's
1:11a French mouse! Now, what was that
1:15French I learned in school?
1:23Mouse: Chatte? Cat! Did you say cat?!
1:28Alice: Oh, I'm so sorry Mouse!
1:31I forgot mice don't like cats.
1:33Mouse: Would you like cats
1:36Alice: Well... perhaps not. But my cat
1:42She's such a sweet, quiet thing.
1:45If you meet her, I'm sure you'll like her.
1:49Mouse: We won't talk about cats
1:53Alice: We won't! Er... do you - do you er...
1:59like dogs? They can be so sweet and they kill
2:04all the rats... and... Oh dear!
2:09Alice: Oh please come back, dear Mouse.
2:12We won't talk about cats or dogs, if you
2:17Swim with me to the shore.
2:20Narrator: So Alice and the mouse swam
2:21to the edge of the pool of tears.
2:25they were joined by lots of other creatures
2:28that had fallen into the pool, just like Alice
2:38There was a duck and a dodo and
2:42many other strange animals that Alice
2:44had never seen before.
2:46All the creatures had the same question.
2:48Animals: How can we get dry?
2:52oh it's no good for my fur, etc...
2:54Dodo: We must have a Caucus-race!
2:56Animals: Hooray! Hoorah!
2:59Alice: What's a Caucus-race, Mr Dodo?
3:02Dodo: The best way to explain
3:04a Caucus-race is to have a Caucus-race!
3:07Narrator: It was the strangest race Alice
3:10had ever seen. The Dodo marked
3:12a circle for the racecourse and
3:15everyone stood anywhere they wanted to.
3:17Nobody said "One, two, three, go!"
3:20but everyone started running.
3:30although she didn't quite know where
3:37and right in any direction they pleased.
3:41But after half an hour of running,
3:42everybody was quite dry again.
3:44Dodo: The race is over!
3:46Multiple voices: But who has won?
3:50Did I win? Who is the winner?
3:53Dodo: Ah... yes... Who has won?
3:58Everybody has won and everyone
4:02And she must give the prizes!
4:06Narrator: Alice didn't have any prizes for
4:08a Caucus-race with her, but she searched
4:11in her pockets and found some sweets.
4:13She had enough sweets to give exactly
4:15one sweet to every runner.
4:17Alice: Here you are, one for you,
4:23Aminal: That is a tasty sweet...
4:29Alice: And one for you - now,
4:32does everybody have one?
4:35Oh, I must say, my cat Dinah would
4:38love a Caucus-race...
4:40Animals: Let's go! Come away!
4:42Time for bed! Goodbye!
4:46Alice: Oh dear. I said it again. Come back!
4:53Poor Dinah. Nobody seems to like her
4:56down here and I'm sure she's
4:59the best cat in the world!
5:02Narrator: Poor Alice felt very lonely
5:05and sad. She cried quietly to herself
5:10But in a little while, she heard footsteps
5:13in the distance. She looked up to see who
5:24Next time, I'll tell you who
5:26the footsteps belonged to, and
5:29how Alice got so big she filled a whole
5:31house, and what happened when
5:34she kicked poor Bill the lizard up and out
5:37of the chimney. Goodbye.
