Thousands Back Petition to Increase UK's Annual Christmas Bonus

The petition emphasizes that the current £10 bonus is no longer sufficient, stating that it 'won't even cover a round of drinks, purchase a quality Christmas pudding or buy a box of decent Christmas crackers,' and that it has become 'insulting' given the current cost of living.

It is essential to recognize that nearly 24 million people across Great Britain rely on some form of benefit, with around 15 million of these individuals receiving the £10 payment, resulting in a significant expenditure of £150 million by the UK Government.

For the 2026/27 period, 24 benefits will qualify for the £10 payment, although the 8.3 million people claiming Universal Credit are not eligible, highlighting the complexities of the benefits system.

To be eligible for the Christmas Bonus, individuals must be present in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or Gibraltar during the first full week of December and receive at least one qualifying benefit during this time.
