Corrie Theo star talks about 'tears' after Todd scenes and hints at killer's identity

Coronation Street's Theo star talked about the character's violent death.

Actor James Cartwright was on ITV's This Morning on May 4, after the soap showed that abusive Theo Silverton was the one who got murdered.

Coronation Street fans finally found out the truth at the end of Friday's episode, after a week of tense shows that told the stories of five possible victims.

The murder happened on the night of Carla Connor and Lisa Swain's wedding, and was first hinted at in a flash-forward episode in February when Betsy Swain was at the police station after finding a body. Theo's death came after months of him abusing his husband Todd Grimshaw.

James talked to Craig and Sian about Coronation Street.

James Cartwright told This Morning hosts Craig Doyle and Sian Welby that he got abuse from fans in the supermarket because of the difficult storyline, and that the scenes affected him.

He said a woman told him to 'leave Todd alone' while he was shopping, and another woman agreed. A man also said something rude to him.

James thought it was funny that people were reacting strongly to the show, but also felt bad because not everyone watching would understand the context.

James said that in one scene, Theo had to shove a kebab in Todd's face, and that it was hard to film because it was a intense moment.

After filming that scene, James cried in his car because it was a release of all the emotions he had been feeling.

Sian said 'adrenaline' to describe how James was feeling, and James joked that it was a waste of a good kebab.

James knew what would happen to his character when he joined the show, and that it would build up to him being revealed as an abuser and eventually getting killed.

James knows who killed Theo, but won't say. He joked that it could be anyone, like Gary or Summer, or even George, who is an undertaker.

Theo hurt his husband Todd on Coronation Street.

Corrie producer Kate Brooks talked about the flash-forward twist and the murder week ahead of the latest episode.

Kate said that the special episode would give the current storylines a conclusion as they are all connected to the flash-forward.

Kate said the story is complex and involves many characters, and that everyone is affected by what happens.

Kate added that the story has many twists and turns, and that it's a big moment for the show.

Coronation Street is on TV from Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
