Adventures of Elliot: A Fun but Frustrating Game

It's frustrating when you see a better game inside one you enjoy. The Adventures of Elliot is a good example.

The game is made by Square Enix and looks like old Legend of Zelda games. It also has elements from Chrono Trigger and other RPGs.

I love these games, so I was excited for this one.

Unfortunately, the game's good parts aren't enough to make up for its flaws. The story is also not very good and takes too long to get interesting.

In the game, you play as Elliot, a kind and reliable guy. He wears a cool hat and is a solid person.

The game starts with typical fantasy stuff, where Elliot has to save a princess. He's joined by a talkative fairy named Faie.

The game is like Zelda, where you explore a world and use Elliot's and Faie's powers to solve puzzles.

Faie's powers are unique and let you control her with the right analog stick. You use her to light torches or carry items.

This part of the game is interesting and makes it stand out.

I enjoyed exploring the world and fighting enemies. The combat is simple but fun.

Elliot can use different weapons, like a sword or a bow, and upgrade them to make them more powerful.

My bow could do many things, like home in on enemies.

It could also bounce arrows between enemies.

And it could light enemies on fire.

It could even make explosions when it hit enemies who were on fire.

Every weapon has unique upgrades, making the combat more interesting.

The combat is fast and fun.

Sadly, the combat is the only good part of the game. The story is forgettable and corny.

There are worse things a game can do than have boring cutscenes. But the game has other problems.

The time travel mechanic doesn't add much to the game. The different time periods are not different enough.

There are some optional caves and dungeons, but they don't offer much.

The game fails to deliver on its premise, both in gameplay and story. The different stories don't interact until the end.

I'm okay with a game saving its best for last, but a 25-hour game that's only okay for 20 hours is not satisfying.

The fact that the game is fun to play makes its flaws more disappointing. It could have been a great fusion of Zelda and Chrono Trigger.

The game comes out on June 18 for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series consoles, and PC.
