American Visitor Spends 10 Days in Thai Airport After Being Refused Entry

A traveler from the United States found himself in a difficult situation when he was not allowed to enter Thailand, and to pass the time, he started sharing his daily experiences on social media, including his makeshift movie theater, reading sessions, and meals in the airport's transit lounge.

The man had approached an airline, asking for help with the cost of a new ticket, stating that he would stay in the airport until his travel plans were sorted out, according to reports from a local Thai television station.

The man's journey to Thailand began on March 15, when he arrived from Singapore, but due to not meeting the necessary requirements for tourists, he was denied entry, as reported by a local news outlet.

In situations like this, the responsibility of arranging the traveler's return or onward journey falls on the airline, as per immigration rules, so the man remained in the airport, under the supervision of the airline, as he was unable to immediately pay for a new ticket.

After waiting for nearly two weeks, the man was finally able to leave Thailand on March 21, once his travel arrangements had been finalized.

Immigration officials clarified that their role in the situation ended once the man was denied entry, and from that point on, the airline was responsible for handling the logistics and providing assistance, following standard regulations.

The story has generated a lot of interest online, but officials have warned that some posts might be aimed at gaining sympathy or increasing engagement, and they advise people to carefully verify the information they come across.

This incident is not the first of its kind; in December of the previous year, a young European traveler claimed that she was not allowed to enter Thailand because she did not have enough money with her, as determined by immigration officers at a different airport.
