Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria have the highest extreme warning level in many areas.

Health authorities advise people to avoid direct sunlight between 11am and 5pm. They should stay in shaded areas, wear protective clothing, and use sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection.

Parents are reminded to keep babies under one year old out of direct sunlight. The Canary Islands have high UV radiation levels due to their location and climate.

Experts recommend using factor 50 sunscreen to stay safe.

The NHS says most people do not apply enough sunscreen. Adults should use about six to eight teaspoons of sunscreen to cover their whole body.
