British Man's Holiday Plans Ruined by Passport Mistake

A British man had a problem at the airport.

A man from Britain was stopped at the airport because of a passport mistake.

Terry Winter, 56, and his wife Molly, 62, booked a holiday to Tenerife. They thought everything was okay. They had a hotel and dinner plans. But they were wrong.

Terry and Molly arrived at Birmingham Airport. They tried to check in their bags with easyJet. But Terry's passport had a problem.

Terry had to book an emergency appointment to get a new passport.

Terry told the Mirror what happened. He said, 'I put my suitcase on the check-in and got a warning sign.'

Terry's passport was not expired, but it was too old. It did not meet EU rules. Terry said, 'I didn't know about this rule. I was shocked.'

The UK has new travel rules after Brexit. Passports must be less than 10 years old to visit most European countries. Terry said, 'I didn't know about this rule.'

Two other people at the airport had the same problem. Terry said, 'This isn't just a one-off thing.'

A mum of three had the same problem last week. She couldn't board her easyJet flight to Greece. She had to pay extra fees.

Terry was told his passport was 'not valid' at the airport.

Terry was surprised he wasn't warned about the passport rule. He booked his holiday in January and entered his passport details on the easyJet website.

Terry said, 'They accepted my booking and didn't tell me about the problem. I had to enter my passport details again to check in, but it didn't flag anything.'

Terry asked an easyJet staff member how often this happens. The staff member said, 'It happens daily with a lot of people.'

Terry was 'frazzled' at the airport. He had to book an emergency appointment to get a new passport. His wife stayed with him for support.

Terry was going on a two-week holiday to Tenerife with his wife Molly.

Terry couldn't get an appointment in London, so he went to Peterborough. He and his wife travelled there and stayed in a hotel.

Terry got a new passport and rebooked his flights to Tenerife.

Terry lost almost £1,000 because of the problem. He had to pay for extra fuel, hotels, and flights.

Terry said, 'I've lost around £400 on the flights I couldn't board. It's getting close to £1,000.'

Terry got an email from easyJet reminding him to check his travel documents. But it was too late.

An easyJet spokesperson said, 'Mr Winter couldn't fly because his passport didn't meet the rules.'
