Initially, after losing his position on the grid, the 36-year-old was speculated to join the new Cadillac team, but after making it clear that he was stepping back from an F1 comeback, it became evident that the ‘Honey Badger’ would not return to motorsport on a full-time basis.
Since that time, Ricciardo has been mostly out of the spotlight, spending quality time with friends and family while making occasional appearances at sporting events. He has also embraced a new ambassadorial role with Ford, engaging in the Ford Racing initiative.
"What lies ahead for me is really just relishing this lifestyle I'm currently enjoying," Ricciardo told GQ Sports. "It took me a little time to adjust after retirement, but now I'm finding, let's say, my rhythm and my joy.
"And with Ford and being their ambassador, it's a means to remain connected to racing, motorsport, and the automotive industry, but without the stress I placed on myself for so many years. So, that’s a wonderful balance that I’m very content with."
Ricciardo has been relishing the shift in pace. Following his departure from F1, the Perth native has expanded his Enchante clothing line, introduced his own wine, and attended various sporting events, including Wimbledon and NFL games.
"Life has changed significantly, but it's been positive," he remarked. "I’ve had plenty of time to myself, time to grow a beard, engage in activities I didn’t really have the chance to pursue while racing and traveling so much, and that means a lot of time with family and friends. So, I’ve really enjoyed it, getting to rack up a lot of miles on my [Ford] Raptor."
Ricciardo’s mark on F1 will endure as well. In 2026, close friend and four-time world champion Max Verstappen will race with the former Red Bull and Renault driver’s No.3, after losing the rights to the No.1 to newly-crowned champion Lando Norris.
Reflecting on the number transfer, Ricciardo stated: “It’s great. I had a chance to see Max recently. The number three thing is pretty awesome. It’s a neat story for us and also for F1 fans who supported Max and I during our teammate days.
"So when I met up with Max in Austin and he mentioned he wanted to take number 3, I was absolutely thrilled to agree, because otherwise, I think he would have had to wait another year. I’m glad to pass that number on to him now.”
