Is a Center Parcs Europe stay cheaper than the UK?

Center Parcs is famous for its big pools, activities, and lodges, but it's also expensive, especially during school holidays.

Despite the prices, Center Parcs in the UK and Ireland attracts many families. But those on a budget might wonder if they can enjoy Center Parcs without the high prices.

One option for families with school-aged kids is staying at a European Center Parcs.

There are 28 Center Parcs holiday parks across Europe, offering many locations to choose from, including the Belgian and Dutch coast, Germany's forests, and near Disneyland Paris.

While European accommodation prices are lower, I wondered if it would still be cheaper once travel costs were included.

Center Parcs is famous for its woodland accommodation.

I looked at a short break in May half-term week, pricing it up as a family of four with two school-aged children, seeking the cheapest options.

In the UK, Whinfell Forest in Cumbria was the cheapest park, with a two-bedroom Woodland Lodge being the least expensive accommodation.

This cost £1,349, including entry to the subtropical swimming pool, adventure playgrounds, and cycle routes.

The same break a week earlier cost £599, showing the big price difference for school holidays.

Center Parcs in Europe can be more affordable.

In France, Center Parcs Les Bois-Francs is about two hours from Le Havre ferry port or three-and-a-half hours from Calais, offering a similar grade of accommodation for €440 (about £380) for four nights.

Travel costs include a ferry from Dover to Calais for £164 and fuel costs of about £70, making the total cost £614, nearly half the UK price.

This puts the cost of a Center Parcs break in France at £614, including accommodation and travel, nearly half the cost of the UK.

A Comfort Cottage in Le Lac d’Ailette is another option.

I looked at a longer break in the six-week holidays, comparing Center Parcs UK and Europe prices on these premium dates.

A Woodland Lodge in Woburn Forest, Bedfordshire, costs £2,378 for a week.

But is a European break any less expensive?

Le Lac d’Ailette in France is one of the cheaper European options, with a Comfort Cottage costing €1872 (about £1,634) for the week.

A return ferry from Dover to Calais costs about £241, making it cheaper than the UK option but with a longer journey.

While a European Center Parcs holiday could be cheaper, consider additional travel costs like passports and potential longer drives.

Food in French supermarkets tends to be more expensive than in the UK, except for wine, but eating out can be more affordable with prix fixe menus.

If you're a Center Parcs fan and don't mind the extra travel time, consider trying a park on the continent for your next break.
