South Korea’s final summer with dog meat

South Korea will fully ban eating dog meat starting in February 2027. In the past, many people ate dog‑meat stew on hot summer days as a traditional way to stay strong and gain energy in the country.

Views are changing, and most South Koreans now care about animal welfare and keep pets at home. Surveys show that more than 80 percent of people support the new ban. Today, only older people still eat dog meat. Markets are shifting, and many restaurants now offer black goat stew instead.

Business owners see the social change, but they feel sad for elderly customers who travel far for their favorite traditional dish. The government plans to help farm owners and sellers move to new businesses in the region locally.
