0:01As one of the world's largest privately
0:03owned industrial gases companies with
0:05more than 125 years of experience,
0:08Messer is expanding its investment in
0:10Vietnam. The company's first commercial
0:12scale green hydrogen production project
0:14in Vietnam, developed in partnership
0:16with Enterpo, is expected to begin
0:18operations in September this year.
0:23>> Uh with a GDP growth of 8 to 10%
0:26investment of new companies in the
0:30electronics, in automotive, in many many
0:33industry where you need more and more
0:35quality, so you need more and more high
0:37purity gas, but also hydrogen is part of
0:40of this mix. So,
0:42all that makes that the industrial gas
0:44will continue to grow and that with
0:47company like Messer, we will continue to
0:49to develop and to bring more expertise
0:51and and
0:53low carbon gases.
0:56>> Since May 2026, the power to liquid
0:59pilot project, which studies the use of
1:01green hydrogen combined with a
1:03sustainable carbon sources to produce
1:05fuel, has been underway. This is a
1:07collaboration between the Vietnam
1:09Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical
1:11Corporation and the German International
1:13Cooperation Organization. Though still
1:15in the pre-feasibility study phase, the
1:18project is expected to lay the
1:19foundation for a low emission fuel chain
1:22serving aviation and maritime transport.
1:28>> To commercialize and produce green
1:30hydrogen on a large scale, first, a
1:32stable supply of renewable electricity
1:35is needed, which requires very large
1:38scale wind power projects.
1:41Second, the quality of hydrogen must be
1:43consistent. Third, production costs must
1:46be competitive and commercially viable.
1:52>> At present, there is already strong
1:54demand for hydrogen across a range of
1:57industries. Current demand is estimated
2:00at about 500,000 tons per year.
2:03Compared with other countries in
2:04Southeast Asia, Vietnam has a
2:06competitive advantage in developing
2:09low-emission hydrogen industries.
2:13>> According to experts, the increased
2:15investment by foreign businesses is seen
2:17as a strategic leverage for Vietnam's
2:19green hydrogen sector. It can also
2:22address bottleneck in capital, cost,
2:25and output markets, while accelerating
2:28the commercialization and completion of
2:30the value chain from production and
2:33storage to distribution of green
2:35hydrogen.
