Australia doubles post-study work visa fee

The application fee for Australia's Temporary Graduate visa, which allows international students to remain and work after completing their studies, has been increased to AU$4,600 (US$3,250).

The new fee, published on the official website of the Australian Department of Home Affairs, took effect on March 1. It is double the previous charge of AU$2,300.

Visa holders may also bring eligible family members.

For vocational graduates, the nominated occupation must appear on Australia's skilled occupation list. Both streams are subject to health and English language requirements.

The government has not provided an official explanation for the fee increase.

The move has triggered concern among international students. On the online forum Reddit, some users expressed surprise at the lack of advance notice, noting that previous fee adjustments had been announced ahead of time. Several described the new charge as unusually high.
