Israeli Air Attacks on Lebanon Kill 11 People
At least 11 people were killed in Israeli air attacks on southern Lebanon on Saturday.
A home in the village of Ansar was hit, killing seven people, including three children. Another attack in the village of Deir al-Zahrani killed four people and wounded 17.
Israel and Lebanon agreed on a plan for Israel to leave southern Lebanon if the Hezbollah group disarms. This could lead to a peace agreement between the two countries, which have been at war for nearly 80 years.
Hezbollah did not agree to talk directly and was not part of the deal.
These air attacks are the deadliest since the truce started two months ago. Four people were killed in strikes on the town of Nabatiyeh Fawqa on July 6.
On June 19, Israeli strikes on Lebanon killed 83 people and wounded 141.
Lebanon's Prime Minister criticized Israel's air attacks, saying they scare people in their homes and make the situation in the south worse.
The Prime Minister said the people killed were not military targets and the children and women were not fighters.
He said it's the Lebanese government's job to deal with any military issues in the country.
The Prime Minister said Israel must stop these attacks. He also said the security and right to life of the Lebanese people are not up for discussion.
The President of Lebanon said the air attacks send a clear message to those trying to make the agreement work.
Israeli air attacks also hit a strategic hill that overlooks the southern city of Nabatiyeh. Despite the truce, Israel's military has continued to attack the area almost daily.
The Israeli military said they struck Hezbollah targets in response to an attack on Israeli soldiers. They said they will not let Hezbollah harm Israeli civilians or soldiers.
A Hezbollah official did not comment on whether they carried out any attacks on Israeli forces.
Hezbollah called on the Lebanese government to stop the aggression instead of talking to Israel. They said this would give Israel what it wants without getting anything in return.
Hezbollah said the US is helping Israel with its attacks and that Israel must understand its actions will be met with a response.
Earlier this month, two Israeli soldiers were killed in an explosion in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah did not comment on the blast.
Lebanon and Israel have had seven rounds of talks, with the most recent one in Rome.
Hezbollah has refused to disarm and accuses the Lebanese government of giving in too much to Israel.
An Israeli air attack killed four people, including a school principal, in southern Lebanon.
A sea turtle conservationist was also killed in an Israeli air attack in Lebanon.
The latest war between Israel and Hezbollah started on March 2. Over 4,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since then, including many civilians.
About 40 soldiers and three civilians have been killed on the Israeli side.
