After college, Byrne moved to New York City with his bandmates. They played at the club CBGBs. Their group, then called the Artistics, later changed its name to Talking Heads and became a defining new‑wave band.

Collaboration is a big part of Byrne’s work. He has recorded with St. Vincent, Dirty Projectors, Arcade Fire, De La Soul, Robyn and Selena Gomez, among many others.

On the American Utopia tour, Byrne broke his well‑known songs apart on stage. He added each instrument one by one so the audience could hear how the music was built.

Byrne says his lifelong curiosity and willingness to ask questions has kept him creatively active into his 70s.
