Why missing school‑holiday matches could stall women's cricket in Australia
This summer, Australia will host nine white‑ball home matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand, but all of them are scheduled for October or March, which are outside the school‑holiday period.
Under the current schedule, the only home games that take place in the middle of summer before the end of 2029 are white‑ball matches against Ireland in the first half of December 2028. The Australian women have not played a home game during the summer school holidays since January 2025, and the WBBL now falls entirely during the school term.
Perry believes that having games during the school‑holiday window would let more families watch, inspire young people to play cricket, and keep the women's team’s momentum strong.
