Alec Baldwin’s new documentary promises an unfiltered look at his darkest hours after the Rust shooting, and the trailer already hints at raw emotions.

The documentary, titled "The Trial of Alec Baldwin," tracks the 2021 Rust incident on a New Mexico set where prop‑gun fire killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, and follows the subsequent manslaughter trial of the actor.

A New Mexico judge dismissed the involuntary manslaughter charge, and the case was finally closed in December 2024 after prosecutors withdrew their appeal of the July 2024 dismissal.

In the trailer, Baldwin admits he was “in shock” and “in disbelief” when he learned of Hutchins’s death. He says he wants to be acquitted and warns that prosecutors would “definitely put me in jail if they could.”

The film is directed by Oscar‑nominated filmmaker Rory Kennedy and will open in North American theatres on Oct. 1, offering viewers Baldwin’s own perspective on a highly publicised legal battle.

After the tragedy Baldwin told reporters he wanted to retire. He spent three‑and‑a‑half years largely at home with his wife Hilaria and their seven children, all under the age of 12, before deciding to return to work.
