Why Zachary Levi Left California and Is Building an Artist‑Run Hollywood in Texas

In 2017 the 45‑year‑old actor sold his Los Angeles home and bought a 75‑acre ranch just outside Austin, Texas, where he now plans a massive film campus.

Speaking with co‑star Liam Neeson for Fox News Digital, Levi called California a “failed state” that is “literally and figuratively on fire,” explaining why he left the Golden State.

Levi says his goal is to build a “better Hollywood” that is owned and operated by artists, cutting out the middlemen that he feels have broken the industry.

His vision includes not only soundstages but also housing, schools, an organic farm and wellness spaces so creators can live and work together in one community.

The project, named Wyldwood Studios, is a $100 million film and lifestyle campus on his Texas property. The first two soundstages are slated to open in 2027.

While developing Wyldwood, Levi is also starring in the upcoming action thriller “The Fix,” where he appears opposite Liam Neeson.

Levi’s move highlights how personal and professional frustrations with California’s environment can drive high‑profile talent to launch bold, location‑changing ventures.
