How Hongjoong Recovered 40 Lost Songs and Rebuilt ‘From’ Before ATEEZ’s Debut

In 2018, while the pre‑debut members were training intensively in Los Angeles, Hongjoong’s MacBook was stolen. Although the device was later recovered, it had been completely reformatted, wiping the roughly forty self‑produced tracks he had stored on it.

At that time, the trainees’ daily life was filmed for the KQ Fellaz American Training series, and Hongjoong was already handling most of the songwriting and production duties. One of his key projects was a song titled “From,” which the group intended to record and shoot a music video for before leaving the United States.

Undeterred, Hongjoong decided to reconstruct the lost material. With member Jongho staying up late to assist, he re‑composed and produced “From” anew, allowing the track to be finalized and released as part of the series in July 2018. The episode now serves as a cautionary tale about the necessity of backing up creative work and the power of perseverance.
