Police Warn of Scam Using Fake GST Voucher Messages on Telegram

The Singapore police warned on Thursday, July 16, about a scam targeting Telegram users with fake GST Voucher messages.

Scammers send fake infographics with links that ask for personal info like phone numbers, names, or ID numbers.

Victims are also asked for their Telegram verification codes, which lets scammers take over their accounts.

The scammers then use these accounts to send fake links to the victims' contacts or add them to fake investment groups.

About 1.5 million Singaporeans will get the next GSTV payout in August. They should be careful of scams.

The Ministry of Finance shares info on Facebook, Instagram, and other official channels, but not on Telegram.

People will not be asked for personal info or bank login details to get their GSTV payments, which are sent automatically.

The government only sends SMS from 'gov.sg' to inform people about their benefits, and they do not need to reply or click links.

The police advise people to use the ScamShield app, enable two-factor authentication, and set transaction limits for security.
