Wayne Rooney Criticizes Thomas Tuchel After England Loses to Argentina

England manager Thomas Tuchel was criticized by Wayne Rooney on BBC after England lost to Argentina in the World Cup semi-final. England had only 12% possession of the ball after Anthony Gordon scored the first goal.

Tuchel replaced Gordon with a defender, Ezri Konsa, and brought in two more defenders, Dan Burn and Nico O'Reilly. This changed the game, and England lost their lead two minutes after the game restarted.

Rooney said, 'It's a panic, it's a real panic. You can't go ahead and then give up.'

Rooney also said, 'You can't give up the ball and any chance of scoring a second goal. You want to be in control when the other team is under pressure.'

Rooney continued, 'If you're on the field and you see the manager making these changes, you start to lose faith. You can only get away with this so many times. You start thinking, 'We're going to defend, how are we going to get through this?'

Rooney said, 'We got into a good position, but then we didn't know what to do. We defended, and they started attacking us. They created many chances, and then we failed. I'm really disappointed.'

Rooney added, 'These fans spent a lot of money to be here. I expected more from this game.'

Rooney said, 'Argentina is the world champion. We knew it would be tough. The changes we made didn't help us. I'm devastated. Sometimes you need luck to win these tournaments.'

Rooney concluded, 'After we scored the first goal, we didn't try to score the second goal. Thomas Tuchel made a decision, and it was a risk.'

Rooney said, 'Tuchel's decision to play with five defenders allowed Argentina to control the game. His decisions cost us the game tonight.'

Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart said, 'I think Gareth Southgate would be watching this game at home, remembering the criticism he faced in big moments. England often takes the lead and then defends.'

Hart said, 'I don't see any change in how England plays in big moments. Thomas Tuchel changed his strategy too quickly, which shows he didn't believe in his team's ability to score more goals against Argentina.'

Micah Richards added, 'You're right. Tuchel was hired to make a difference. But his strategy was wrong, especially when he switched to five defenders. We could have kept the momentum by bringing in wingers and playing higher up the field.'
