Apple's First Water-Resistant iPad is Coming

For years, iPhones have been able to withstand water. But iPads are not water-resistant.

This will change soon.

Apple plans to launch its first water-resistant iPad by the end of the year. The new iPad mini will be the first water-resistant model.

Apple's approach to water resistance in the iPad is different from the iPhone. The new iPad mini will have a special speaker system that doesn't need holes, which will help keep water out. This will limit the ways water and dust can enter the device.

Apple has been working on this technology since 2014, when they filed a patent for it.

The new iPad mini's rating for resisting dust and water is not known yet. The iPhone 17 can be underwater for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 6 meters.

The iPad mini last got new features in 2024, but its design has not changed since 2021. It got a new chipset, but that's all.

An Apple expert said the iPad mini would get big upgrades, including a new kind of screen called OLED.

It would have been great if the new iPad mini came out before summer, but it's expected to launch by October. You can plan to get one next summer.

The current iPad mini costs $599, but the new one with an OLED screen might be even more expensive.
