Thailand, the second most visited country in Southeast Asia, has welcomed 19.7 million tourists this year.

China was still the top source of visitors. It sent 3.3 million tourists. Malaysia came next with 2.4 million visitors. India sent 1.4 million tourists, the ministry said.

Russia was fourth with 1.1 million visitors. South Korea was fifth with 729,367 visitors.

Foreign tourist arrivals in Thailand have fallen, but the decline is smaller than earlier forecasts, the newspaper reported.

The tourism outlook for the rest of the year is getting better, helped by big events like the IMF‑World Bank meetings and the Tomorrowland music festival.

Lower airfares and the expected return of European and Middle Eastern tourists in the high season also boost the outlook.

Thailand was the second most visited country in Southeast Asia last year. It received 32.9 million tourists. Malaysia was first with 42.2 million.
