Dolly Parton's Death Triggers Surge in Support for Alabama Literacy License Plate

Dolly Parton died on Tuesday at the age of 80, ending a six‑decade career that included both musical hits and a global literacy campaign.

Within just 24 hours of her death, the number of Alabama residents who pledged to purchase a specialty license plate jumped from roughly 40 to more than 550, according to Kaelyn Christian, the state director of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Alabama, who told Fox News Digital that the plate still needs 1,000 commitments before it can go into production.

Christian explained that each plate would contribute about $50 annually to the Imagination Library program in the county where the vehicle is registered, creating a recurring source of funding that functions like a small, ongoing donation.

The Imagination Library already serves about 114,000 Alabama children, providing a free book each month to every child from birth until they turn five, and the extra money from each plate could cover the cost of books for two children for almost two years, reinforcing a program that has distributed more than 300 million books worldwide since its launch.

Parton's death therefore illustrates how a beloved public figure can quickly mobilise public sentiment into tangible support for children's education and literacy.
