Doctor warns against using two washing machine temperatures

We always have a lot of laundry to do. Have you thought about the best temperature for washing clothes?
A doctor says using the washing machine in a certain way can make clothes cleaner, help your health, and save money.
Dr Xand van Tulleken, a British TV doctor, shared his ideas on BBC Morning Live.
The expert said washing clothes at 40 and 90 degrees might not be the best. He gave other suggestions.
Dr Xand warned against using 90 degrees. He said it's too hot and can hurt clothes.
Using 90 degrees is bad for clothes and expensive. It's like boiling them.
Dr Xand said 60 degrees can be good because it kills some bugs. He suggested using it for clothes with infections like norovirus.
Dr Xand said 30 degrees is enough and cheaper. It saves 40% in energy costs and is quicker.
The doctor likes using 20 degrees for most clothes, except gym clothes. It can save 62% on bills.
Dr Xand said to keep the washing machine clean when using lower temperatures. He suggested cleaning the detergent tray.
The expert puts the detergent tray in the dishwasher to clean it. He also wipes the drum with vinegar and leaves the door open.
People reacted to the TV segment on Instagram. They shared their laundry habits and temperatures they use.
One person said they always use cold water and hang clothes to dry. Another person uses 20 degrees for most clothes.
Some people like using 30 degrees and a low heat dryer. They said their clothes are soft and fresh.
Others like using 40 degrees because it kills bacteria and doesn't hurt clothes.
One person said using 90 degrees occasionally is good for towels and cleaning the machine.
Another person said they use 90 degrees for bedding and towels, and 30 degrees for delicate clothes.
