PWHL recap: Leslie leads Charge over Torrent

Rebecca Leslie netted both the equalizer and the decisive goal, propelling the Ottawa Charge to a 4-2 victory against the Seattle Torrent on Wednesday night in Ottawa.
Wednesday signified the concluding evening of PWHL competition before the Olympic interval, as eight Charge and six Torrent players depart for Italy for the Winter Games. Ottawa's head coach, Carla MacLeod, is additionally part of that contingent as Czechia's head coach.
Fanuza Kadirova and Emily Clark also found the back of the net for Ottawa (4-5-0-7). Gwyneth Philips recorded 24 saves.
Hilary Knight and Jesse Eldridge scored for Seattle (4-1-2-7), which stayed at the bottom of the eight-team standings, one point behind Toronto. Corinne Schroeder made 26 stops.
On the power play, Hannah Bilka forced a sprawling save from Philips, but Knight collected the rebound to score first at 5:40 of the second period.
Rebecca Leslie's late power-play goal elevates Charge past Torrent
Just over two minutes into the third period, after Charge forward Katerina Mrazova intercepted Natalie Snodgrass's clearing attempt, Kadirova seized the puck and scored against Schroeder.
In a quick turnover, Torrent forward Danielle Serdachny set up Eldridge with a one-timer to put Seattle ahead 2-1 at 10:03 of the third.
Leslie tapped in a pass from Brianne Jenner to tie the score with 5:14 on the clock. She then secured her second goal on the power play with 30 seconds left in regulation.
Clark added an insurance goal 13 seconds later to seal the game.

Ann-Renee Desbiens recorded 22 saves to achieve her third shutout of the season as the Montreal Victoire triumphed over the Toronto Sceptres 3-0 at Place Bell.
This also marked Desbiens' fourth career shutout, as her bobblehead was distributed to fans. The league's top goaltender from last season went the whole year without a shutout. She has allowed just four goals in four encounters against the Sceptres this season.
Natalie Mlynkova, Marie-Philip Poulin, and Shiann Darkangelo scored for Montreal (7-3-0-5), clinching their third consecutive victory and seventh win in their last eight games. The Victoire remain unbeaten in six matches at their main home arena.
Raygan Kirk recorded 28 saves for Toronto (4-1-3-8), which is on a downward trend. The Sceptres have dropped three straight contests and lost seven of their last eight.
Victoire blank Sceptres for 3rd straight win
Montreal initiated the scoring with 3:27 left in the first period as a loose puck came to Mlynkova, who sent a backhand past Kirk from the slot.
Poulin doubled the advantage, scoring a power-play goal off a rebound with 5:35 remaining in the second. Darkangelo netted another power-play goal less than four minutes later, as she capitalized on a rebound to score into an open net.
Olympians from both teams were recognized after the match as they departed Thursday for Milan. All eight teams competed across the PWHL on Wednesday, marking the league's transition into the Olympic break.

Britta Curl-Salemme scored twice, rookie Kendall Cooper tallied her inaugural career goal, and the Minnesota Frost defeated the Vancouver Goldeneyes 4-1 on Wednesday night in St. Paul, Minn.
Kelly Pannek scored in her fourth consecutive game for Minnesota (7-2-3-3). Maddie Rooney achieved 31 saves, securing her third consecutive victory.
Michelle Karvinen netted for Vancouver (5-1-2-8). Kristen Campbell, who conceded three goals in her last three starts combined, recorded 18 saves.
Cooper picked up a loose puck and shot a wrist shot over Campbell's glove to score just under five minutes into the game. Curl-Salemme struck on a one-timer from the point with 2:53 remaining in the first period, and Pannek netted a power play goal just before the buzzer for her fourth straight game, making it 3-0 going into the second period.
Goldeneyes defeated by Frost in final match before Olympic break
Although the Goldeneyes outshot Minnesota 32-22, the Frost held a 13-7 shot advantage at the end of the first period.

Alina Muller scored the decisive goal in the eighth round of the shootout, Aerin Frankel recorded 30 saves, and the Boston Fleet edged the New York Sirens 4-3 on Wednesday night in Lowell, Mass.
Abby Newhook, Liz Schepers, and Jamie Lee Rattray also contributed goals for the Fleet.
Boston (8-2-2-2) leads the league with 30 points so far this season.
Kristyna Kaltounkova scored twice for the Sirens, while Kristin O'Neill added another. Kaltounkova is leading the PWHL with 11 goals this season, one more than Minnesota's Kendall Coyne Schofield, and is just the third rookie in league history to achieve double-digit goals. Minnesota’s Grace Zumwinkle netted 11 goals in the inaugural season, and Sarah Fillier had 13 for the Sirens in 2024-25.
New York (7-0-2-7) has fallen in three consecutive games and has lost four (three in overtime) of its last five. Kayle Osborne made 32 saves for the Sirens.
Kaltounkova drew penalties that provided New York with power plays for the final 1:57 of regulation and the last 1:10 of overtime. The Fleet entered the game with the league's highest penalty kill rate at 96.9%.
The Fleet previously defeated New York 2-0 on Dec. 17.
Boston faced its second consecutive shootout, marking the Fleet's third in the last four games and fourth this season.
