Lots of people travel with Ryanair, but there are some rules you need to follow when you do so, like knowing which items you can and can't pack in certain bags. However, little you may know, there's a common item you should never pack in your suitcase, and it's vital advice to follow if you want your air travel experience to go smoothly.
Ryanair actually bans certain items from being carried in suitcases, and there's good reason why. Some can pose dangers when packed in checked luggage, so it's vital you follow the strict rules when travelling if you want to avoid some potential big problems at the airport.
It's not the only travel tip you need to follow either. Carrying certain alcohol in your luggage can also be quite problematic.
The topic recently came up on Reddit when a social media user asked: " Perfume in checked baggage with Ryanair. Does it pass?
"Want to buy a 125ml bottle of perfume and fly with it soon if possible (Ryanair). Firstly, I know that 100ml is the max for on board, and so it would need to go in the hold. Fine.
"I tried to look for any size restrictions on it being in the checked baggage but didn't see anything. However, Ryanair's policy says no to flammable liquids. A quick Google says that perfume is considered a flammable liquid.
"Basically, can I take a 125ml bottle and put it in the checked baggage and how does this align with Ryanair's (and presumably other airlines) Terms and Conditions?
"Whilst I'm here, what if something was in your bag that wasn't meant to be and it was padlocked? Would they just leave your bag in your departure city?"
The question quickly got a lot of people talking, and people had different ideas. It seems as though they've had all kinds of experiences.
One said: "It won't be an issue for a random bottle of perfume in your checked bag. Might depend on the country but, if you lock your bag and it's not allowed to be locked, they will just cut the lock off.
"But locking a zipper does literally nothing, you can open it in a couple of seconds with a pen or whatever anyway." Another also added: "Small quantities of perfume for personal use are allowed in passenger baggage."
However, little you may know, there are some rules you need to follow when travelling with flammable substances, and Ryanair issues advice on the website. You should take note of the information.
The Ryanair website advises: " The following items are strictly prohibited on board and in checked baggage. E xplosives and incendiary substances and devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury or to pose a threat to the safety of aircraft, including flammable liquids, flammable solids and substances that cause a chemical reaction."
While it lists many other banned items, this is one that many people may not have thought about much. When it comes to something like perfume, there are rules you need to follow.
You can take flammable perfume on a plane, but it must adhere to strict liquid and safety regulations. In a carry-on, it must be no more than 100ml (3.4 oz) and fit in a 1L clear bag.
Meanwhile, in checked luggage, bottles should not exceed 500ml or 16 oz, usually with a total limit of 2L per passenger. It should also be packed securely to prevent leaks, so be sure to stick to the rules.
Generally speaking, however, you should not pack flammable items in your suitcases as this isn't allowed. If you want want advice about a specific product, contact your airline for further guidance, as airlines can slightly differ when it comes to their rules.
