BBC Star Talks About Feeling Ashamed of His Religion

Hasan said he felt ashamed when he was young.

Comedian Hasan Al-Habib talked about feeling embarrassed by his religion when he was younger.

Hasan is one of seven celebrities on the show Pilgrimage: The Road to Holy Island.

He is on the show with other famous people like Ashley Banjo and Hermione Norris.

Hasan talked about growing up as a Muslim and feeling ashamed of his heritage.

He said, 'I knew about my faith when I was young. I was lucky to know about it before people told me they didn't like it.'

Hasan made a sad statement about his religion.

He said, 'After 911, I was ashamed to be Iraqi because of the war.'

Hasan tried to fit in by being funny and acting like a white British person.

Now, Hasan is proud to be Iraqi, and it helps his career.

He said, 'Being Iraqi is good for my career now, but sometimes I feel like I'm not Iraqi enough.'

Hasan wants to answer big questions about life on the show.

Hasan was a child when he first felt ashamed.

He said, 'I'm lucky to have this chance to search for answers with other people.'

Hasan and his friends visited a mosque, which was a moving experience.

Tasha said, 'Seeing Hasan and Ashley pray together was powerful and made me think about being more open-minded.'

Tasha cried while filming the show.

She said, 'We should not judge people for their beliefs, and we should be more open-minded.'

Tasha remembered being bullied online and cried about it.

She said, 'It still hurts me, but now I'm stronger and can deal with it better.'
