A New TV Special for a Beloved British Sitcom

A new two-hour TV special is coming about the popular sitcom Last of the Summer Wine, with new insights into its characters and setting.

The Last Drop of Summer Wine is a deep look at the classic BBC series, which is known as the longest-running sitcom in the world.

Comedian Brian Conley will take viewers on a fun trip to Holmfirth in Yorkshire, where the show was set, to visit famous locations and meet people connected to the show.

The show's creator, Roy Clarke, has written new reflections just for this special.

These reflections will be part of the program and offer a personal look at the characters, locations, and legacy of the show, with Clarke's voice at the heart of it.

The film will also show never-before-seen photos, scripts, and scrapbooks from Roy Clarke's personal archives, along with family photos of the cast and crew.

Some of the main actors, like Bill Owen and Peter Sallis, have passed away. Kathy Staff, who played Nora Batty, also died in 2008. They were all important to the show.

Last of the Summer Wine first aired on the BBC in 1973 and ran for 31 series until it ended in 2010.

All 295 episodes of the show were written by Roy Clarke, including Christmas specials and TV films.

The original cast included Bill Owen, Peter Sallis, and Michael Bates, and over the years, many more actors joined, like Russ Abbot and Dame Thora Hird.

Brian Conley was a guest on the show before. The new special was commissioned by UKTV's Jason Dawson and will air on UandGOLD in 2027.
