Rodri Leaves Door Open for Possible Madrid Transfer

Manchester City's midfielder Rodri has not entirely dismissed the idea of joining Real Madrid in the future, despite having previously played for Atlético Madrid.

After overcoming a lengthy recovery from a serious knee injury suffered in 2024, Rodri is now back to playing regularly for Manchester City and has recently been crowned the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner.

With only a little over a year remaining on his contract with Manchester City, which is set to expire in June 2027, Rodri has been linked to a potential move to Real Madrid during the summer.

When questioned about his past with Atlético Madrid making a transfer to Real Madrid unlikely, Rodri chose his words carefully, avoiding any definitive statements that might rule out the possibility.

In a recent radio interview with Onda Cero, Rodri pointed out that several players have made similar moves in the past, suggesting that he is open to considering top clubs around the world.

Rodri initially spent six years developing his skills in Atlético Madrid's youth system before being released and joining Villarreal, where he eventually broke into the first team.

Following an impressive season with Atlético Madrid in 2018-19, Rodri caught the attention of Manchester City, who decided to trigger his release clause to bring him to the Premier League.

Since joining Manchester City, Rodri has grown into one of the most skilled midfielders globally, earning the Ballon d'Or award after contributing to Spain's victory in Euro 2024 and Manchester City's Treble win.

Rodri expressed his desire to return to LaLiga at some point, stating that he has a year left on his contract with Manchester City and will need to discuss his future with the club soon.

Real Madrid had opted not to sign a central midfielder last summer, instead focusing on strengthening their defense and adding a new winger, but reports suggest they may be considering a midfield signing ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Recently, young player Thiago Pitarch has been given the opportunity to play alongside key midfielders, including Aurélien Tchouaméni, Federico Valverde, and Arda Güler, under the guidance of coach Álvaro Arbeloa.
