Family Seeks Answers After Death of 9-Year-Old First Nations Girl

The chief medical examiner's office is looking into the death of Mary Bull-Sinclair, 9, says the grand chief of the Southern Chiefs' Organization.

The family of a 9-year-old First Nations girl who died after being sent home from a hospital in Manitoba twice is looking for answers about her death.

Mary Bull-Sinclair died at her grandmother's home on March 21, five days after she broke her arm while tobogganing.

Paramedics told Mary's mother to get ready to go to Winnipeg's Children's Hospital, but that trip never happened.

Mary was taken to Dauphin hospital, where she was diagnosed with a broken arm and sent home without a care plan. She was given a note saying she had to stay out of school for two weeks.

Mary was not seen by a doctor, and there was no talk about putting a cast on her arm, even though her mother asked about it.

After her first hospital visit, Mary went home in a lot of pain and had to sleep sitting up in a chair.

It's hard for the family to remember Mary being in so much pain.

Mary's pain got worse, and she was taken back to the hospital, where she was given a new sling and sent home with no medicine.

Mary was crying, and so was her mother. They didn't know what to do after being sent home from the hospital twice.

The family saw that Mary's chest was discolored on March 21. Her mother was cooking when she saw Mary sleeping on her broken arm.

Soon after, Mary's mother saw that her fingers were turning purple and fluid was coming out of her mouth and nose.

An ambulance was called for Mary, but it was too late.

The family still doesn't know what caused Mary's death.

The family wants to know what happened to Mary and is asking for a transparent review of the care she got at the hospital.

The family needs healing now because Mary's death has caused them a lot of pain.

The Southern Chiefs' Organization Grand Chief said the chief medical examiner's office is looking into Mary's death but hasn't given any updates.

The grand chief doesn't think Mary got the proper care and wants the public to know that.

There should have been at least a blood test done.

The family has agreed to a detailed autopsy and more tests.
