Analysis of Casey McLean's career

Casey McLean will start his first State of Origin match on Wednesday night.

McLean believes that not being afraid to fail is key to his success, but it's hard to remember him failing.

McLean will play his second match for New South Wales, showing his great talent at a young age.

He gets support from his family, friends, and partner to stay grounded.

McLean said, 'I haven't stopped smiling for the last couple of months. Playing for New South Wales is a dream come true.'

McLean's rise to the top has been very fast.

He said, 'I have to enjoy the good times when I can, and my close friends and family help me stay humble.'

Not long ago, all of this was just a dream for McLean.

He is the youngest player in this series and represents a new generation of players.

McLean played with Kieran Foran in the Pacific Championships when Foran made his New Zealand Test debut, and McLean was just three years old.

McLean was a regular player for New Zealand when he was still a teenager.

When James Tedesco made his State of Origin debut, McLean was only ten years old.

Back then, McLean was like many other boys who watched Origin and dreamed of playing.

For him and his brother Jesse, the Morris brothers were their favorite players in sky blue.

McLean said, 'The Morris brothers were my favorite Origin players when I was a boy.'

McLean's arrival to the top level has been very fast.

Two years ago, after just seven first-grade appearances, he scored four tries on his Test debut for New Zealand.

Twelve months ago, he secured a starting spot in the centers for Penrith and scored 19 tries in 29 matches.

Two weeks ago, he played his first game for New South Wales and did very well in 23 minutes.

His teammate Brian To'o is not surprised by McLean's success.

To'o said, 'Case is one of those players who comes along once in a lifetime. He is a once-in-a-lifetime player and person.'

To'o feels old seeing McLean do so well at his age.

To'o said, 'When I first met him, he was quiet, but when he trained, you could see his energy and communication.'

McLean isn't successful just because of his talent; he also works very hard.

His attacking game is strong, but he has also worked on his defense, which is important in Origin.

The Morris brothers, whom McLean idolized, were great defensive players.

McLean's athleticism has stood out in the two years since his NRL debut.

Asking him to do the same as the Morris brothers is a tall order, but he has improved his defense.

This will help him in his match-up with Queensland and Robert Toia on Wednesday.

When the Tricolours met the Panthers earlier in the season, Toia got the better of McLean for an early try.

Penrith came back to win 40-4 after being down 4-0.

McLean's determination to not let Toia get the better of him again is why he is in Origin II.

He is the result of hard work and natural talent, which binds him to a great future.

McLean said, 'It comes down to training. Every rep in training, you have to treat it like it's a game.'

He also said, 'Just not being afraid to fail, that's the big thing, you have to challenge yourself.'

McLean said, 'It's all words until you prove it through actions.'
