FIFA President Defends World Cup Ticket Prices

'If we are doing something wrong, everyone in North America is doing something wrong,' says FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The World Cup has 48 nations and 104 games. Tickets start at $140 and go up to $8,680 for the final game. FIFA raised the final game ticket price to $10,990 and then $32,970. After people complained, FIFA offered some $60 tickets to national teams for their fans.

Infantino said the average ticket price is under $500, which is similar to other US sports. He is not worried about some states investigating FIFA. He said FIFA checked with lawyers before selling 6.5 million tickets.

Infantino said FIFA cannot control the high prices fans see for World Cup games because it is a secondary market. He used the NBA Finals as an example of high prices in other sports.

Infantino said FIFA is relaxed about investigations because they followed the law when selling tickets. He welcomes any investigation.

Infantino said FIFA cannot help a Somali referee who was denied entry to the US.

Infantino said it is unfortunate that the Somali referee was denied entry and people should calm down.

He said FIFA cannot tell governments who to let into their countries, but they are working on it.

Infantino said FIFA tries to make situations positive and find solutions, but sometimes they cannot.

Infantino said we live on Earth and have to deal with real problems.

He thinks FIFA deserves credit for helping Iran play in the tournament.

Infantino praised FIFA for working with Iran so they can play in the tournament despite the US and Iran being at war. Iran moved its training camp to Mexico and will fly to the US for games.

Infantino said he does not know who else could have helped Iran play in the tournament.

Infantino said the World Cup will be the biggest event in human history.
