Mexico vs South Africa Referee Faces Criticism

Wilton Sampaio is in charge of the World Cup opening game between Mexico and South Africa. He refereed over 250 games, including England's 2022 loss to France.

The England players and fans criticized Sampaio's performance. He awarded two penalties to England, but missed some incidents, including fouls on Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane.

Sampaio did not give a free-kick when Saka and Kane were fouled, but he gave a penalty when Saka was fouled in the box.
