I Used the New EES System at Barcelona Airport

I tried the new EES system at Barcelona's airport.

Nobody likes waiting at the airport, they want to get to their taxi or car as soon as possible.

There's a new system called EES that visitors to the EU must use, it started on April 12, but Greece won't make British people use it this summer.

I had used EES in France before, but I was worried about using it in Spain, I arrived on a Friday morning at a busy airport.

I got off the plane and into a line.

I first used EES on the Eurostar, it took a few minutes to register, now I'm in the system for three years.

I thought I could go through the passport gates quickly, but I had to wait in a line with other non-EU people.

The line was long, some machines were not working, I had to scan my passport, then I could go through the gates.

I got out of the airport 25 minutes later.

Some people had trouble with the machines, but others used them easily.

It took me 25 minutes to get through the airport, I felt lucky I wasn't traveling with kids.

The airport is very big and busy, but the staff are efficient, 25 minutes is not too bad, the process was smooth.

The airport had 57 million people in 2025, they need to be efficient.
