New research looked at dog theft statistics. It compared this year to last year to find where dog theft is highest and where it's getting worse.
1,626 dogs were stolen in the UK in 2025. That's about four dogs every day.
Only 344 stolen dogs were found. That means most stolen dogs don't go back home.
Some dog breeds are stolen more often. French Bulldogs were stolen the most in 2025, then Staffordshire Bull Terriers and others.

Lancashire had a big increase in dog theft reports. Hertfordshire and Humberside also had more reports.
