Ho Chi Minh City Makes English a Second Language in Schools
In 2014, the city began a new program that taught math and science in English.
This program helped students learn English and other subjects at the same time.
Students at a high school in Ho Chi Minh City are learning English.
Now, English is taught in many schools, even to young children. Over half of the children in preschool are learning English. Most schools teach English and some even teach math and science in English.
Some schools are teaching other subjects in English to help students get used to the language.
One high school is using English everywhere, even on signs and in meetings. The school has many English clubs and activities.
But it's not easy to make sure all schools have the same English programs. Some schools don't have enough resources or teachers.
The city has been working to train its teachers. Most primary and secondary English teachers are proficient in English.
However, the city still needs more qualified teachers who can teach in English. The city also needs to improve the English skills of school administrators.
The city is working on a plan to make English a second language in schools by 2045.
The plan has three parts. First, the city will build a strong foundation for English programs. Then, it will expand these programs to more schools. Finally, it will make sure all schools have English programs.
To achieve its goals, the city will attract good English teachers, use technology, and make learning materials better.
