Scientists looked at crystals in a rock. These crystals are called zircon. They help us learn about the moon. The moon is about 40 million years older than we thought. It formed over 4.46 billion years ago. The moon formed when a big object hit Earth. This sent hot rock into space, which became the moon.

Scientists used a method to confirm the zircon’s age. The moon’s age is important for Earth. The moon helps our planet and weather.
